Great place to stop to stretch your legs on the trip between Kona and Volcano.
Great local coffee. Free sample cups to try like 20 different blend of coffees. Great views. However I didn't know about those lava tubes until I read other reviews on here. What is it anyhow?
Tour buses stop here so the store can be very crowded.
More a tourist-oriented "souvenir" store than a museum or "coffee center." Probably not the best place for a coffee tour, to shop for coffee, or to shop for Hawaii souvenirs. BUT the location is convenient and parking is adequate, so you may find yourself stopping here.
We wanted to learn how coffee is made by taking a tour. Go elsewhere for that; there is no tour. What this little gem does offer is about a dozen different blends of Kona coffee that you can sample, self-served, at your leisure. I kept expecting someone to come pressure us to buy something, but it never happened. Very rare these days, and much appreciated.
If you want to learn about coffee-making, there are signs and a movie. I was too busy enjoying my 100% Kona coffee samples, coupled with a great ocean view.
If you shop for coffee, be CERTAIN you are buying 100% Kona Coffee -- that description exactly. NOT simply "Kona Coffee," NOT "Kona Blend," NOT "Hawaii Coffee." All are marketing gimmicks to confuse visitors that many merchants (not necessarily this one) use to sell ordinary coffee at premium prices. You will absolutely notice the difference between 100% Kona and anything else.
A good experience. They had some informative movies. Also a large variety of coffee to taste and buy. Highly recommended.
