Beautiful roadside stop for lunch, blink and you've passed it though
The four miles of hiking trails through its "natural arboreteum" is a great outdoors experience for the whole family. A great chance to experience the natural life in the Ka'u district's unique ecosystem, and stretch your legs for that drive to Volcanos National Park.
In the past, Manuka State Park had a reputation as a drug-users' hangout, but local activists from the adjacent Ocean View community recently carried out a unique and effective "intervention" to drive out the bad elements and clean up the park. Manuka Natural Area Reserve is a state-owned and managed wildlife, plant, and ecosystem preserve.
Stop on your way to or from the south end attractions and/or the volcano, and enjoy a breath of the freshest air anywhere.

Most of the Reserve is wild and a challenge to explore. However the Manuka State Park, right on the highway, is a gem. Ample parking and restrooms make it a convenient waystation for travelers along Highway 11.
