Great place to rent kayaks for a day on Kealakekua Bay. All we had to do was reserve 5 yaks for a given time and day. Everything was ready and waiting when we arrived: the boats (sit-on-top "ocean" kayaks), paddles, dry bags, and permits to go to the marine reserve. They help you into and out of the water, in case you're new to kayaking. Friendly and helpful! If the wind is calm it's an easy 30-40 minute paddle across the bay to the Cook Monument. There is a small reef area there with fish, coral, urchins, sea cucumbers, etc. The coral itself isn't much to look at (compared to famous areas like the Belize reef) but the fish are colorful and the water is super clear and the perfect temperature. You might be surrounded by a lot of tour boats if you're there mid morning, but most of them leave by lunchtime. I recommend starting early - 9:00 AM or before. Great place to spend a few hours.
After having TWO boat tours cancel on us, we decided to give kayaking a try and are SO glad we did! These guys were so awesome and easy going—no long winded safety instructions (we are experienced kayakers), no fuss, just friendly and flexible service and we were out on the water almost immediately after parking! They let us take our toddler out in his life vest without any guilt trips. And it turned out to be the perfect way to experience the bay! We kayaked among leaping spinner dolphins, took turns snorkeling around Captain Cook, and had an amazing time, all for $60 I think. Wouldn't do it any other way!
Siani is great!!! Best place to rent kayak with the permit, all day fee for $60 for a kayak for two!
