This was our first time to the Big Island and couldn't be happier after using Ehu and Kai to paddle over to the Captain Cook monument. What lots of other companies in the area fail to mention is that you have to transport kayaks yourself on your rental car... why risk it? We rented from Ehu and Kai online, parked on the street near the beach, walked for 2 minutes and met with a couple of awesome employees who set us up in less than ten minutes.
We've used them three times for tandem kayaks. Very friendly and helpful. If we've forgotten something like water or sunscreen, they've given it to us. Normal provisions include a dry bag (phones, keys), mesh bag (snorkeling equipment), life vests. Equipment is high quality. Each time we've seen spinner dolphins at Captain Cook. I think it's the most reliable place to see them. Snorkeling from a kayak is the best method: you can paddle to any part of the bay where they randomly appear. I've hiked to Captain Cook, it could be a very long swim to see the dolphins without a kayak. Yesterday, we also saw a 6' manta ray.
It was extremely easy renting kayaks here and these folks were terrific. They helped my 74 yr old mom with bad knees get in and out of the kayak and were so kind and friendly. We went back a second day because we had such fun and it was so simple to rent from here.
truthfully a great experience. Mike was very helpful, were pods of Dolphins throughout the bay. I highly recommend this option based on the fact it's quite an adventure to get to the monument , you will see dolphins and the reefs are spectacular. Make sure you go bright and early so you can take advantage of the Sun. Try to show up as soon as they open so you can get some good sun and see all the fish and their bright colors. Bring a water camera!
Wonderful locals renting out kayaks, very friendly, best prices, clear directions. Provided dry bags! Easy to book and pay online. Do be aware there are no bathrooms on location. Oh and go at 7am to see dolphins!
